CESEM’s participation in EuroMAC 11, in Barcelona
EuroMac 11 was held from 7 to 10 September at the Catalunyana School of Music in Barcelona. CESEM highlights the participation of its researchers:
- Mafalda Nejmeddine (University of Évora, Music in the Modern Period Group): paper entitled “Patterns in 18th-century keyboard music: An approach to revealing Portuguese music identity”, as part of the project “Portuguese Music Identity: Patterns of the Keyboard Repertoire (1750–1834)”. The paper results from a collaboration with researchers Chenyu Gao (School of Arts and Creative Technologies, University of York) and Tom Collins (Frost School of Music, University of Miami);
- Joana Peliz (NOVA FCSH, Music in the Modern Period Group): writing the text “How Organological and Symbolic Analysis Opens New Possibilities for Musical Analysis: The Case of the Hurdy-Gurdy”, as part of a parallel event organised by the Museu de la Música and the Portuguese National Music Museum, where Joana is a scholarship holder;
- Ângela da Ponte (P.Porto, Research Group on Contemporary Music): paper entitled “From Spectra to Ornament: The use of Microtones in Portuguese Contemporary Music”, as part of the project “Microcrivo”. The paper results from a collaborative project with PhD student Luís Neto da Costa (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki);
- Paulo Ferreira de Castro (NOVA FCSH, Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication): paper entitled “Theories of form and heterogeneous temporalities: an approach based on examples from Brahms and Debussy”. The researcher also chaired two sessions.
