Isabel Mendes holds a degree in Musicology from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at NOVA University Lisbon and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Musicology, specializing in Historical Musicology, at the same institution. During her academic career, she held a research initiation scholarship as part of the strategic project between CESEM and the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, collaborating on the cataloging and classification of documents and primary sources belonging to the theater’s Choir Commission. Her research interests currently focus on artistic mediation processes within the musical context. In this area, she presented an individual scientific communication in January 2026 titled “Amateur music education as a pillar of cultural sustainability in the municipality of Praia da Vitória: the case of the Filarmónica União Praiense” at the seventh edition of the “Música, Média e Públicos” (Music, Media, and Audiences) conference. Additionally, under the Erasmus+ program, she studied at the University of Bologna, in Italy, during the 2025/2026 academic year; an experience that broadened her scientific perspectives in musicology through exposure to an international academic environment. That same academic year, she completed a curricular internship with the Enarmonia Project, teaching clarinet to blind and low-vision individuals and deepening her experience in inclusive music pedagogy. Concurrently, in the field of music criticism, she contributes bimonthly as a writer for the cultural department of the academic newspaper Nova em Folha, publishing articles regarding mediation processes in the contemporary musical landscape, as well as music and cultural criticism.
