Biography
He studied at the Catholic Univ. of America under the guidance of Robert Stevenson. His work on 19th-century music has appeared in Grove Music Online, Inter-American Review, and Revista Brasileira de Música, and was recognized in the Samuel Claro Valdés and Otto Mayer-Serra competitions. His current research on the modinha is funded by Brazil’s National Library and the American Musicological Society. After a period at Columbia University in New York, he now teaches at the Univ. of South Carolina.
