Biography

Miguel Resende Bastos is a composer, producer, sound engineer and sound designer, born in Porto. He holds a Master’s degree in Musical Composition from Codarts Rotterdam and in Sound Design from the Portuguese Catholic University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music, specialising in composition, from the Higher School of Music and Performing Arts.

Between 2023 and 2025, he collaborated regularly with Digitópia (Casa da Música) as an artistic director of projects, composer, developer and sound designer. In 2024, he presented the DigiUniversal project, dedicated to the development of an accessible digital musical instrument, at the Porto Electronic Music Symposium. In 2025–2026, he co-produced and released Bernardo e os Gatos, an art-rock/art-pop album with a strong electronic component, taking charge of production, arrangement, selection of musicians, sound design, electronic production, recording and mixing.

As a composer, he is dedicated to interdisciplinary and collaborative creation, exploring the relationship between music and other arts, from literature to dance, and developing a repertoire of chamber, vocal and electronic music. He is a member of the Coletivo Caleidoscópio, with whom he premiered VÓRTICE (para o fim de um tempo) (2022), an audiovisual show created through a collaborative process involving composers, a director, technicians and performers. His music has been performed at venues such as Casa da Música, Teatro São Luiz, Teatro Pérez Galdós and De Doelen, and at national and international festivals. Between 2020 and 2022, he was composer-in-residence at the Movimento Patrimonial pela Música Portuguesa.

His works are published by MIC.pt and Artway. In 2019, his opera O Mestre Assassinado premiered in Rotterdam. He was awarded the Musa Prize for Um Adeus aos Deuses (2020) and won first prize at the 10th Póvoa de Varzim International Composition Competition with À Toa (2017).

He studied composition with Robin de Raaff, Dimitris Andrikopoulos, René Uijlenhoet and Ivo Medek, and production, recording and mixing with Mário Barreiros, Gustavo Almeida, João Brandão, João Bessa and Cláudio Tavares.
